Name, Latisha

Hope Mills, NC

Businesses: Touch of Class Publishing Services and Brooklyn Girl Apparel

Latisha is one of my beautifully talented pen sisters who writes under In Reverie Publications and Shvonne Latrice Presents. She creates these raw, unpredicatable, keep you on the edge of your seat type of stories that will have you hooked within the first chapter, I guarantee! But beyond that, she's a godsend when it comes to publishing services. I know everything I write is in good hands with Latisha behind it. So I was hella happy when she agreed to share her business journey with the #OHHEYSIS tribe. Enjoy ladies! - Meek

Tell us more about Touch of Class Publishing Services and Brooklyn Girl Apparel:

Touch of Class Publishing Services provides editing, proofreading, formatting, and manuscript evaluations for publishing companies and self-published authors alike. Each day, we are adding more services for our clients.

Brooklyn Girl Apparel is a new boutique I opened which provides customized shirts for everyone. I will also be adding more items to the online store.

How long have you been in business?

Touch of Class Publishing Services – 4 ½ years. Brooklyn Girl Apparel – less than two months.

What made you start your own business?

Touch of Class Publishing Services was started to assist authors in the Urban Literary Industry, ensuring they have at least a one-percent error-free manuscript. My goal is to help others not only recognize their errors but better their craft, overall.

Brooklyn Girl Apparel was something fun I created with my kids. They help me come up with some of the designs and tell me what’s ‘poppin’ (is that correct?) for their generation. LOL! It is so much fun for me and them and increases our bonding time together.

What was the hardest thing you've had to deal with in business thus far?

The hardest thing I've had to deal with is keeping customers because of my prices and dealing with authors’ feelings.

How did you overcome that?

I’ve come to realize that those who want quality work by professionals that do not consider this a job but their passion and are also knowledgeable of what they do will choose my company. Our work speaks for itself. And authors that truly want to better their craft, they will accept the feedback given as constructive criticism. It is better to hear it from your editor than a reader.

What's been your biggest accomplishment?

All of the books those in my company and I have edited have reached the best-sellers list on Amazon. At least 30 percent of the books I've personally edited have made it to the #1 spot. I get just as excited and overjoyed as the authors when this happens.

What or who inspires you in business?

My children are my inspiration. I want to show them that regardless of what you're facing in your personal life, you can still successfully run a business. However, my driving force is authors. Seeing them succeed means I've succeeded.

What advice do you have for women looking to become entrepreneurs like you?

It is not easy to run your own business, especially when you have others working under you. Sometimes it is hard to find like-minded individuals whose grind matches yours. But do not give up. If owning your own business is truly your passion, go for it, and don't let anything or anyone stop you.

What's coming up for you and Touch of Class Publishing Services and Brooklyn Girl Apparel?

For Touch of Class Publishing Services, currently, we are in the process of adding cover design to the company's platform. We have mastered editing, proofreading, and formatting, and now we want to take the company to the next level.

Since Brooklyn Girl Apparel is fairly new, I am adding items one at a time. But within the next year, we plan to operate as a full online boutique with customized shirts, apparel, and accessories for women and men of all ages.
